sick day

                                                          TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!!

Welcome back after a long weekend! Hope everyone had a fun and safe holiday! We had a fantastic time with our friends and house guests. Nothing better then a weekend of laughing therapy. Did you know that in India there is a type of yoga where people get together in a park to laugh together for health reasons.
One of my kids was pretty ill in the middle of the night and I woke up this morning feeling tired and under the weather myself. Last time I was sick was a year ago. Today I'm taking a well deserved sick day.
HOW TO ENJOY YOUR ONLY SICK DAY? First, I take a shower and put comfy cloth on. Then I ask for help. I almost never do it, but today I 'm getting my IOU cards out and plan on spending the day in my pajamas watching movies.
My stack of films: The Lion in Winter
                              The Sound of Music
                              Hopscotch
                              Soap Dish
                              House Calls
                              Moonstruck
I'll be a lucky girl today if I watch two. I'll start with KUNG FU PANDA.
I took the kids to see the second one this weekend. Surprisingly, I liked it. It was a good action film without the blood and foul language. I recommend it even if you don't have young kids. All five children with me (Ages 4-18) said the first one was better. I am about to find out. See my comment tomorrow.

                    GOOD       TOMATO

Did you know that if you store tomatoes stem side down they stay fresh longer. Try it next time you buy them. Big difference! Also, NEVER refrigerate tomatoes!

                      SUNBLOCK

I went to see my dermatologist yesterday. I've got the same advice : Never mind expensive creams. Use high SPF face sunblock.

THIS WEDNESDAY FEELS LIKE FRIDAY!

Long weekend is coming ! I feel it!! So many things I want to do when there are a few days off, and when it's over I always wonder "how come I didn't do half the stuff I wanted to?!"
Don't be too hard on yourself! Especially if things you plan are housekeeping related.
Here is a phrase I came up with a few years ago:

Your husband might leave you, your friends might leave you, even your children eventually will be out of the house. But your dirty laundry will always be there waiting for you!

Anyway, here's what I do. I call it  ONE-DRAWER-A-DAY PROGRAM. Every day I try to organize one cluttered or problem area in my house. You may ask "Wow your house must be very organized"
Not really! I think it's like Golden Gate Bridge. Once they are done painting it-it's time to start all over again.

SO HERE WE GO  ONE-DRAWER-A-DAY

Am I alone here or is my Tupperware and are my socks always getting mismatched?

I think there is a planet out there that is made of Tupperware lids and socks. Can someone explain to me how socks disappear? In my career as a housewife I tried pinning them together, putting them in a laundry bag together - no use. I still have a box in my laundry room with mismatched socks. I'm contemplating making a quilt from them. Just joking!  u
Drawer of the day is          TUPPERWARE
OK! BE RUTHLESS!! Match tops with bottoms. Recycle the rest!  JUST DO IT! Don't say to yourself  "Ahhh I can use this jar without a top for my mismatched socks!" OUT TO THE RECYCLING!

                                                WOMAN THAT INSPIRED ME!!!

Last night we had dinner with our old friends. I know Karin for many years. She is super-smart, super-ambitious and also super-sucessful.
Why do I admire her? She told me yesterday that she didn't take  a job that would pay her double the money she makes now, because she  wanted to spend more time with her daughter, since it's her last year of high school and at home. GOOD FOR YOU KARIN!!! Your kids are lucky!

                           BIG WORD
Remember to use big words with your kids and friends. Conversations will be more interesting!!
collaborate - To work together, especially in an artistic effort
"Darling! Let's collaborate and make dinner together!"  (sounds better than "Are you gonna help me with dinner or what?"!)

           THREE QUESTIONS TODAY

Q from Ann: My kids keep asking me to get a dog. It's just impossible with my life right now. Besides we have plans for the summer. What are we going to do with the dog?

A: I am glad you are thinking about it seriously. Having a dog is like having a child that's always 5.
I am not able make a commitment like that myself because we like to travel and I don't want to make a dog miserable and myself guilty by leaving him in a dogie hotel. It's hard to explain to your kids, though!
Here is what we do. I tell them no, and give them all the truthful reasons BUT if anybody needs cat-sitting or dog sitting - we always volunteer. Last time we watched a big Golden Retriever for a week. Guess what happened? They took care of him for 2 days and then he was entirely mine!

Q from D: I like walking, and I would like for my husband to go with me sometimes. He always says no. Any way to change that?
A: Man don't usually like to  be pressured into anything. Stop asking him completely but make sure that after you come back from your walk you mention how great it feels and how beautiful it was and what you saw. Hopefully in a month or two he'll ask if he can join you. Remember, until then, stop asking him to go!

Q from Sue: Is it OK that our 3 month old baby shares a room with us?

A: If you are breastfeeding at night it's perfectly fine. Remember that when you have a tiny baby like that you have to conserve your energy so you can go through the day.
However, remember that they get smart very fast. You should move him to his or her room just as soon as he/she starts sleeping through the night - at about 6-8 months. Enjoy this sweet time!

TUESDAY!

Tuesday is a funny day. Still beginning of the week . Many resent Tuesdays. If you are like me, and just can't find a good reason to get out of bed ( foggy and cold @ 6 a.m. ) wear bright clothes and a lip gloss. I had a YELLOW sweater  this morning! It works!!!

                                  NEW DISCOVERY
You are running late . You just had to answer that one e-mail . You are screaming at the kids : PUT YOUR SHOES ON ! GET IN THE CAR !  then you feel guilty and the result is always the same : you are a few minutes late and stressed AND so are your kids (They just feel your energy).
Here is the answer ! sing it ! it works ! First of all it's hilarious (especially if you have no voice like me ) and kids just freak out and do it ! I am dying to hear from those who tried it!

Good reason why my blog is short Tuesdays & Thursdays

This is the day when my youngest daughter is home with me. By this time I know how fast time REALY flies (My oldest daughter is almost done with college)!

ENJOY YOUR KIDS ! YOU CAN'T TURN BACK TIME!

BRIDESMAIDS, the movie . Had good reviews . We actually walked out .
I found it very vulgar and demeaning to women . Besides , I realy don't need to see a perfect reenactment of food poisoning when I'm on a date with my husband, thank you very much!

                            BIG WORD
Kids like it when I use big words . I try to use them every once in a while . I think it's a good idea because they do pay attention and like to flaunt them later on . HA!! Here is our BIG WORD today !

                                                         FLAUNT (show off )

                             BEAUTY
Sally Hansen  SALON EFFECTS real nail polish strips

25 minutes and I have pedicures just like the ones I paid 80 dollars for in Beverly Hills last year (Minx ). 10 bucks in drugstores available for everyone . Flip-flop and sandals ready!

                     ALLOW ME TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

My name is Anna and I have been a housewife all my adult life. I guess after telling that to people gazillions of times I can now proudly say that I am Professional Housewife!! I had put a promising career as a fashion designer on hold to stay home and raise our six children. Though we could afford to, we never had a nanny, which gave me extensive experience with children of all ages, multiple siblings under the same roof, as well as numerous situations that arise in a big family every day (not to mention a very demanding husband).

I AM THE HAPPIEST WOMAN BECAUSE I WORK FOR MY FAMILY!!!

                                                      Three Questions today

Q: From Sarah: I have two kids: 12 and 14.They both have a terrible acne problem. It's out of control! Any advice?

A: The teenage years tend to be a very insecure time for a child or young adult. Acne can add even  more anxiety and frustration. It's very important to deal with the problem as soon as possible to avoid scars in the future.
One of the reasons for out of control acne (aside from those hormones chugging away like mad!)  is poor nutrition. Processed and fried foods should be cut to a bare minimum. Sodas and sugary cereals should be avoided. Explain to your children that if they don't know what it's made of-they shouldn't eat it.
I have a 13 year old boy myself. Those pimples pop up like mushrooms after the rain. I nag constantly not to pick them or touch them with dirty hands.
Products I like are Neutrogena facial swabs. Have one pack at home and one in the backpack. Encourage your teen to wipe his or her face at recess and after PE. They should also start taking a shower after school at this point. Great product to use in the shower is Clear Pore daily scrub also by Neutrogena. Moms, try it too! It made my skin look fresher and even whiter.
A good idea is to introduce your teen to a dermatologist as that may avoid painful and pricey resurfacing procedures later in life. Be prepared to battle with it for several years. Good luck!

Q from Trish: My baby is 18 months old. When is a good time to potty train?

A: The best time to toilet train is when you are ready and there is a consistency. You have to take your time and make sure your baby is not sick at the time and everyone in the household is on the same page. It can get very frustrating for your child and you if after several days of trying to be diaper free someone shows up to baby-sit for a few hours, puts a pull-up on your kid and you are back to square one. The bottom line is: have a plan - make sure anyone coming in contact with your child is on the same page as you, then start with your baby. Good luck!

Q from D: I've had three kids and now my body looks like I was attacked by a lion.My husband says he loves me just the way I am and wants to keep the lights on but I'm very insecure about my stretch marks when we are in bed. Any Ideas?

A:By the way, I believe that your hubby loves and desires you the way you are. However if you have one less thing to worry about when you are intimate with him- the quality of your love making will be much better for both of you. Did you experiment with lingerie? Long silky provocative gown or flirty baby-doll?  Keep the lights on if he likes it. Did you try candles? Everyone looks better, younger, and thinner in candle light. Try battery-operated candles with a timer for a worry-free evening. They'll be on when you enter your bedroom and if you fall asleep- they'll turn off by themselves. I just love modern times!!!!

                                                        HOUSEKEEPING

Anything copper in the house? We have a bar top. It's a pain in the.....well....hands to keep it shiny.
It took my housekeeper and I several hours last week  to make it look decent. We tried lemon, Brasso (more expensive is not necessarily better),...
OK! TARN-X!! Fabulous product!! Just wipe it off. Easy, as housekeeping should be! Don't forget to wear gloves.
Please let me know if you've made a product switch and why.

                                                BEAUTY
I am trying a new product.
Origins  Plantscription. Anti-aging serum. So far I like it. It feels good, doesn't leave any residue  and I thinks the lines around my eyes  are a bitt less visible    XXX
