REENTRY
I can compare coming back from vacation only with astronauts reentering Earth. It' beautiful and exciting to be in the cosmos but it's nice to come home in one piece.
Post-vacation blues are a normal thing. And what's not to be depressed about?! Errands, problems, dirty laundry and bunch of messages and e-mails to answer. There are ways, however to make reentry less painful. My mom for example, doesn't tell anybody that she's back for another week. I never unpack the day we are back from vacation. Sometimes I don't unpack for five days or so. I have to be emotionally stable again to see my resort wear being hung in the closet for another year (that should not be the case if you have a wet bathing suit in your bag).
My husband has a theory that when you come back from vacation you should go out for dinner. This time, since we had a road trip with our precious children we took off for an entire day to reintroduce ourselves to each other, shop a bit and have an uninterrupted meal.
Try to look on the bright side. You have new photographs to organize, see your friends and share memories! If you are still feeling blue....start planning your next trip. Even if it's a year away!
PLAN YOUR REENTRY BEFORE YOU GO ON YOUR TRIP. If your friend or relative has a key to your home give them some money, shopping list and ask them to buy stuff like milk, eggs, bread, fruits and flowers (make sure to put a date on the list when you want your groceries in). This way your home will not feel abandoned when you come back.
Set a lunch date soon after you come back. Sharing memories is a great cure for post - vacation blues!
GROOMING
I always look forward to putting myself back to normal, as far as hair, nails and skin. Sometimes women feel guilty to do that since we tend to overspend on holiday. Make your bathroom your spa. Just find the time to close the door and get someone to watch the kids for a couple of hours. Make a facial mask and soak your feet. Little things like that can make a big difference in your mood.
Throw a dinner party! Friends and cocktails! How can you be sad!?
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Have some hungry children in the house? I do. Sugary serials like Cheerios burn fast and makes kids hungry pretty fast. Good wholesome breakfast is the best!
My kids love mini pizzas. Split bagels in half and spread little mayo on each. Top with a slice of tomato, ham or bacon, shredded cheese and broil for a couple of minutes till nicely browned!
